Team DMTC Projects
The SQL Project

Our second project was our first effort at a major system overhaul. We chose to upgrade the system in our 1986 Cadillac Sedan DeVille. We decided to concentrate on sound quality for this vehicle due to luxury car's inherently low noise level.  However, it still had to have plenty of bass!

Once again the Mobile Electronics Competition Association (MECA) had a division for vehicles just like this one. Since we modified the factory speaker placement, this project is a perfect for the MECAs SQL "Modified" Division. In this division you can move speakers from the factory location but you must be able to return the car to factory specs.

The original system included an Alpine Receiver, Infinity Kappa component speaker system, Infinity Kappa 3-way coaxials, Infinity Reference 4-channel amp, two Kicker 400W mono channel amps, two Kicker CompVR 12" subs, and two Tsunami  stiffening capacitors.

The major modifications included door speaker mounting, A-pillar mounted tweeters, fender well mounting of bass amps, and installing a false floor in the trunk to allow for mounting of subwoofer enclosure and the 4-channel amp for the door speakers.

We just completed an upgrade to this vehicle which includes all new Scosche wiring to improve power delivery. In addition, we added a 9-band Kicker Equalizer which should drastically improve our control over the sound quality output.

Plan to check out this vehicle at Team DMTCs first annual "Rock the School House!" MECA competition this spring.
